Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced medical biller/coder with a specialized focus on psychiatry billing to join our team on a freelance basis. As a psychiatric practice, accurate and timely billing is crucial to our operations, and we are looking for a detail-oriented professional who can ensure that our billing processes adhere to industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Reviewing patient records and treatment documentation to accurately assign diagnostic codes (ICD-10) and procedural codes (CPT/HCPCS) related to psychiatric services.
Generating and submitting claims to insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid, using appropriate billing software or platforms.
Verifying insurance coverage and eligibility for psychiatric services, including obtaining pre-authorizations when necessary.
Following up on unpaid claims and denials, resolving billing discrepancies, and appealing claims as needed to ensure maximum reimbursement.
Maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations and other relevant healthcare laws and guidelines.
Providing support and assistance to the billing team as needed, including answering billing inquiries and assisting with billing audits.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a medical biller/coder with a focus on psychiatry billing, preferably in a clinical or healthcare setting.
Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, with a strong understanding of psychiatric diagnoses and procedures.
Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, such as IntakeQ/PracticeQ, DrChrono, Simple Practice, Osmind, and Optimantra..
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred, but not required.
