Job Summary:
Once complaint is drafted- case is in litigation department
This position assists Litigator to handle, and if necessary, to try cases accurately and efficiently. The position draft complains, pleadings, and discovery. Communicates with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, witnesses, and others.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Drafts complaints to file lawsuits.
2. Composes discovery (interrogatories and request for production of documents).
3. Files complaints with the court.
4. Drafts pleadings (various motions and response to motions of the other side).
5. Drafts answers to defendant’s discovery.
6. Subpoenas Financial Records from the Defense Experts, Insurance Companies.
7. Maintains communication with the client as needed (keeps client updated regarding the status of the case, maintains litigation calendar, informs client of important deadlines).
8. Monitors Clients’ treatment and follow up appointments, from time when case comes to litigation department and forward.
9. Coordinates with MR department to obtains medical records from time when case comes to litigation department and forward.
10. Demonstrates professionalism, patience, and proper customer service skills.
11. Compliant with deadline chains-scheduling orders.
12. Able to perform timely follow up with clients and report delays/issues to a supervisor for timely resolution.
13. Able to multitask; able to exercise effective time management and prioritization skills to avoid stress from high accumulation of the workload.
14. Complies with mission, vision and culture of the Organization, and Organization’s Policies and Procedures.
15. Develops and documents training procedures for this position when needed.
16. Able to properly use FileVine software, including timely notes entering (within 24 hours of performed action); keeps up with FileVine’s updates/training.
17. Compiles and Prepares Exhibits for Trial.
18. Works independently at direction of attorney assigned to case.
19. Creates training videos and writes procedures for this position when needed, assist with training for new hired staff based on experience and needs.
20. Handles any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Needed to perform job:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Knowledge of Maryland state court systems and procedures, to include Electronic Case Filing
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and (Russian preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word) and other office equipment as required.
• Minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to make routine subject matter decisions independently.
• Expected to answer to discoveries-district court 1.5, circuit court up to 8 h; draft complaints – district 1p/1d – up to 20 min using FV templates, circuit court- 1p/1d – 1 up to 45 min; For circuit court: scheduling video depositions – up to 1.5h total time; scheduling clients for depo and for trials prep – 10 min; scheduling for IME-up to 20 min, f/u treatment scheduling-up to 20 min, draft pre trail/mediation statements- up to 1.5 h.
Educational requirements and Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Some college is preferred but will consider candidates with relevant post high school degree (Associates Degree or equivalent experience).
• At least 2 years of experience with personal injury claims; criminal defense or other areas preferred.
Hourly Range: $5.00-$25.00
